Hail is the most common — and most underpaid — property claim in Illinois. The damage rarely announces itself: a bruised asphalt shingle can look fine from the driveway while its fiberglass mat is fractured underneath, and a roof that "passed" a quick carrier inspection can start leaking two winters later, after the deadline to reopen the claim has passed.
We inspect the way carriers train their own experts to: on the roof, slope by slope, with test squares, chalk markings and photo documentation of every impact — shingles, ridge caps, soft metals, gutters, window wraps, screens, siding and AC fins. Then we value the full scope of repair, not the cheapest patch, and present a claim your insurer has to answer line by line.
What the damage looks like
- Dark "bruises" or circular impact marks on asphalt shingles
- Granule piles in gutters and downspout splash areas
- Dents on gutters, flashing, vents and other soft metals
- Cracked, chipped or punctured vinyl siding — often on one exposure
- Damaged window screens, wraps and AC condenser fins
What carriers routinely leave out
- Fractured shingle mats that only show under close inspection or over time
- Matching: repairing one slope with shingles that no longer match the rest — many policies entitle you to a uniform result
- Code upgrades (ice-and-water shield, ventilation) triggered by the repair
- Collateral damage to siding, fascia, decks and outbuildings
Every item on this list is money. Our job is making sure each one is documented, valued and in the claim.
Thank you for great service! Claim approved for full roof replacement, siding and gutters as well!
Hail Damage questions, answered
My insurer said the hail damage is "cosmetic." Is that final?
No. "Cosmetic" is an opinion, not a measurement. Functional damage — fractured mats, granule loss that shortens roof life, broken seals — is compensable, and a proper inspection with test squares regularly overturns a cosmetic-only finding.
The storm was months ago. Can I still file a hail claim?
Usually yes. Most Illinois policies allow claims well after the storm date — often up to one or two years, depending on policy language. The sooner damage is documented, the stronger the claim, so don’t wait longer than you have to.
The carrier approved a repair for one slope only. Is that normal?
It’s common — and often wrong. If replacement shingles can’t reasonably match the rest of the roof, many policies and Illinois matching case practice support replacing the full roof or full exposure so the result is uniform.
