After a tornado, carriers deploy catastrophe teams whose job is volume: dozens of inspections a day, standardized estimates, quick checks. For a family standing in front of a damaged home, the first offer can look like help. It is usually a fraction of what a rebuilt, code-compliant home actually costs.

Catastrophic claims are where independent representation changes outcomes most. We assess the full structural picture — including racking, uplift and envelope damage that isn’t visible from the street — inventory contents, claim debris removal and temporary housing, and negotiate against the storm-team estimate with a real construction scope.

What the damage looks like

  • Partial or complete roof structure loss
  • Racked walls, shifted framing and cracked foundations from wind load
  • Windows and doors breached — envelope failure and rain intrusion
  • Debris impact damage across the property
  • Detached garages, fences and outbuildings destroyed

What carriers routinely leave out

  1. Structural racking that makes a "repairable" house a rebuild
  2. Uplift damage to roof framing connections
  3. Debris removal — a separate coverage many families never claim
  4. Full additional living expenses through a realistic reconstruction timeline

Every item on this list is money. Our job is making sure each one is documented, valued and in the claim.

Very effective representing us. Results couldn’t be better.

Tornado Damage questions, answered

A catastrophe adjuster already inspected and left a check. Is the claim over?

No. Accepting a partial payment does not close the claim, and supplements are normal — especially after catastrophe events. The claim can be reopened, re-scoped and renegotiated until you are actually made whole.

Our home is standing but shifted on the foundation. Is that covered?

Yes — wind-induced structural movement is a covered peril, and it is one of the most expensive kinds of damage to repair correctly. It needs an engineer’s assessment, which we arrange and include in the claim.

Contractors are knocking on doors offering to "handle the insurance." Should I sign?

Be careful. In Illinois, only a licensed public adjuster — or an attorney — may negotiate a claim on your behalf. A contractor who promises to "deal with insurance" is either overstepping the law or planning to build to the carrier’s number, not yours.
